WoW Forever vs Classic: What Has Changed

By Marc · Updated October 12, 2026

Built on the WoW Forever beta. Items, talents and stats can still change before launch on November 4, 2026, and for some new items it isn't known yet where they come from.

WoW Forever isn't a Classic server. You level through the same world from 1 to 60, but a great deal of what you meet along the way works differently: items, talents, races, dungeons and recipes. Knowledge from Classic, or from Classic Hardcore, only partly carries over.

The numbers on this page are counted from the WoW Forever beta data (as Wowhead lists it) next to WoW Classic's, so they show exactly what changed, not an impression of it. They're updated as the data changes, and again at launch.

A new race, and new classes for the old ones

The Skyborne are WoW Forever's new race, one for each faction:

  • High Order Skyborne (Alliance): Druid, Hunter, Mage, Rogue and Warrior
  • Windshaper Skyborne (Horde): Druid, Hunter, Rogue, Shaman and Warrior

The original races get new classes too, so a few character ideas from Classic are possible for the first time: Human Hunter, Dwarf Shaman, Gnome Priest, Orc Mage, Undead Paladin and Troll Warlock. Pick any of them in the character setup to see your gear and talents.

Talents: every tree reworked

No class kept Classic's talent trees. Every class has between 10 and 22 talents that Classic doesn't have, and lost a similar number, so Classic builds don't carry over as they are. Per class:

Plan a build in the reworked trees with the WoW Forever talent calculator, which also shows what each rank does.

Items: thousands new or reworked

Of the 9,666 items of uncommon quality or better in the beta, 2,471 are new and 2,914 were changed: different stats, quality or requirements. 4,260 are the same as in Classic. 101 items carry haste, a stat Classic items don't have.

That makes Classic's gear lists unreliable for Forever. The WoW Forever gear helper ranks Forever's own items for your class, spec and level, and shows where each one comes from.

Professions: 922 new recipes

The beta has 2,453 recipes, 922 of them new and 133 changed. New recipes per profession:

  • Alchemy: 71 of 194
  • Blacksmithing: 197 of 496
  • Cooking: 43 of 132
  • Enchanting: 63 of 261

  • First Aid: 16 of 30
  • Leatherworking: 271 of 590
  • Mining: 4 of 17
  • Tailoring: 180 of 463

Frequently asked questions

Is WoW Forever the same as WoW Classic?

No. It's the same world and the same 1 to 60 journey, but in the beta 2,471 items are new and 2,914 are changed, every class has between 10 and 22 talents Classic doesn't have, there are 6 new dungeons and 922 new recipes, and the Skyborne are a new race.

Which new race and class combinations are there in WoW Forever?

The new Skyborne race, as High Order Skyborne (Alliance: Druid, Hunter, Mage, Rogue and Warrior) and Windshaper Skyborne (Horde: Druid, Hunter, Rogue, Shaman and Warrior). Existing races also get new classes: Human Hunter, Dwarf Shaman, Gnome Priest, Orc Mage, Undead Paladin and Troll Warlock.

Are Classic talent builds still good in WoW Forever?

Not as they are: every tree has been reworked, with talents added, removed and moved. Plan a new build in the WoW Forever talent calculator.
