Blackrock Depths Hardcore Guide
Level 48-60 · Blackrock Mountain · Both factions

Overview
Blackrock Depths is, by a wide margin, the largest and most complex 5-man dungeon in the leveling game — an entire underground Dark Iron dwarf city with more named bosses, optional events, and trash density than almost anywhere else. For Hardcore, its size is itself a risk: fatigue and loss of focus over a long session are real factors on top of any single encounter, and most groups treat it as a multi-session project rather than a single clear.
Quest prep checklist
Blackrock Depths has an unusually large number of quests tied to it, picked up from various zones and NPCs found inside the dungeon itself. Given the scale, it's worth accepting that you may pick up follow-up quests mid-run rather than trying to have everything in hand before you ever enter.
Boss-by-boss hazards
Early bosses — Gerstahn, Roccor, Grebmar, Verek, Stilgiss, Loregrain
Mostly standalone fights spread across the dungeon's early rooms. Individually manageable, but the dungeon's density means clearing surrounding trash before each one matters more here than in most other dungeons.
Lord Incendius & Bael'Gar
Both are fire-themed bosses — bring appropriate healing buffer for sustained fire damage over the course of the fight.
The Seven Dwarves event (optional)
A distinct multi-boss event fought in sequence. Treat it as its own commitment — start it only when your group has the resources to see it through, since backing out partway through a chained event is rarely clean.
The Ring of Law (optional) — Ok'thor, Hedrum, Gorosh, Grizzle
A gladiator-style arena where you fight named opponents one after another. Fully optional and skippable — a good encounter to reserve for when your group is at full resources rather than something to stumble into mid-run.
Emperor Dagran Thaurissan (final boss)
The culmination of the dungeon, fought in a throne room that can draw in nearby Dark Iron dwarves if the pull isn't controlled. Clear the approach fully before committing, and make sure your group is at full resources given how far into the dungeon this fight sits.
Hardcore-specific tips
- Treat this dungeon as a multi-session project rather than a single clear — fatigue over a very long run is a real Hardcore risk on its own.
- Only start optional events (Seven Dwarves, Ring of Law) when your group has full resources — they're significant commitments, not quick side content.
- The trash density is higher than most dungeons at this level range — clear methodically rather than trying to rush toward named bosses.
Summary
Blackrock Depths' danger comes from its scale as much as any single fight — pace yourself, treat optional events as deliberate commitments, and don't let the dungeon's length erode your group's focus by the time you reach Emperor Thaurissan.
